“We weren’t in quite as many states, and a majority of our employees lived in Texas, which doesn’t have a statewide leave program,” said Meredith Soch, Senior HR Operations Manager at Integris. “So we didn’t need leave support.”

But when Integris acquired a company in California, leave logistics changed overnight. “That acquisition opened the door to hiring more employees in states with complex leave laws, like New York, New Jersey, and Colorado,” explained Soch.

She and her team wanted a scalable leave solution, one that would ensure compliance with state leave laws without increasing HR’s admin work.

“The other leave management solutions we explored were more like glorified landing pages—they didn’t do much to lift our burden,” she said. “Whereas Sparrow provides concierge service, walking employees through every step of leave, and we really appreciated that.”

From there, Sparrow fills out and submits state benefits paperwork on the employee’s behalf, then liaises with insurance providers and state agency representatives to gather additional certification documents or check the status of an application.

“The fact that Sparrow can apply for benefits on employees’ behalf, and employees don’t have to navigate these state sites at all is incredible,” said Soch.

She also appreciates the Sparrow team’s legal expertise, and the fact that they can navigate compliance in every state. “That’s where the partnership is especially amazing—Sparrow does all the heavy lifting in the difficult and complicated states,” she explained.

Plus, Sparrow keeps an eye on changing legislation and amendments that affect Integris employees. “We’re growing like crazy and our leaves are increasingly complex, so I foresee us leaning on Sparrow even more in the future,” said Soch.
