May 2023

Sparrow’s high-tech, high-touch approach to leave management means that we are constantly improving both our software and customer experience. Here are some exciting developments.

Product Updates

Visual Leave Plans (VLP) launched in April and are now available on the Sparrow dashboard. The benefit of a VLP is to provide employees and HR teams an easy view of what benefits and job protection regulations an employee is eligible for during their leave. Employees and HR will be able to see a breakdown of leave dates, benefits, wage replacement amounts, etc for all leaves. We’ve also surfaced VLPs in both a detailed table format and in a handy calendar view. Lastly, the VLPs will stay up-to-date as leave plans change (e.g. baby comes late).

This is the first of many product enhancements you can expect to see in the coming months. Please note this feature is opt-in for any leaves prior to our mid-April launch date to help avoid confusion for individuals currently on leave.

Compliance Updates

Sparrow’s in-house Legal and Compliance team regularly reviews and summarizes updates to compliance. We’ve summarized the key highlights on Minnesota’s path to paid family and medical leave, along with the latest federal protections for pregnant and nursing employees that will take effect on June 27, 2023.

Employee Leave in the News

Sparrow and several of its customers were highlighted on the front page of the Wall Street Journal sharing that companies are expanding eligibility for parental leave. The number of men taking parental leave has tripled since 2018, and 5x more companies are mentioning parental leave benefits in their job postings to attract talent.
